Peugeot Speed Limiters to help with the new proposed 20mph limit

Peugeot Speed Limiters to help with the new proposed 20mph limit

With recent campaigns highlighting the importance of reduced speed limits in the vicinity of schools it is important to consider how this can be a practical and safe solution for Peugeot drivers. With many modern cars, retaining a constant maximum speed of 20mph is somewhat difficult. Indeed having to look down at your speedometer is unsafe in itself which tends to negate the point in slowing down in the first place.

Throughout this year there has been an outcry by parents and teachers that 20mph speed limits should be enforced around schools. This is supported by the British Medical Journal in a report published in 2009 that the introduction of 20mph speed limits would reduce road accident casualties by up to 40%. With around 5000 children under the age of 16 dying or being seriously injured on the road, this speed limit reduction proposal becomes a valid idea. It is claimed that over 200 road accident casualties were prevented last year in London alone after the 20mph zones were introduced. In those 200 it is suggested that nearly 27 of them would have been killed or suffer serious injuries.

As local newspapers have pointed out "Peugeot is calling on its customers, or drivers of any vehicle equipped with speed limiters, to set them to 20mph when driving near schools or residential areas." The Speed limiter system is fitted as standard to most Peugeot models and this allows the driver to not concern themselves with checking the speedometer so regularly which therefore increases road concentration. With the speed limiter set to 20mph in these areas, the driver can be assured that they will not exceed this velocity.

Charters Peugeot makes sure our customers know how to use the speed limiter on their car and which models have them fitted as standard. We know that when driving 20mph or less near residential and school areas can save lives. With the introduction of this kind of driving and the safety rating for drivers, passengers and pedestrians alike (as assured by each cars Euro NCAP rating), Peugeot are passionate about this current focus on the safety of our children.

The introduction of these speed limits near relevant areas is likely to happen in the near future as reports suggest. They are already being implemented in Kent and along the south coast. Therefore it is best to be prepared for a different style of driving in these areas.

Charters Peugeot is committed to our customers, their safety and their family's safety. If your are unsure of whether your Peugeot has a speed limiter on it then call our team and we shall let you know. We can also advise on how to use the intuitive system.

If you are buying a new car then be sure to check the safety rating of the vehicle along with whether it has a speed limiter as standard. Our sales team can advise you on how driving your car differently can save lives.
