The Frankfurt Motor Show has sadly come and gone. However the impressions that some cars have left will last a lifetime. Peugeot proudly displayed the HX1 (their MPV concept) this year proving that a family sized car needn't be a van with windows. With its low and wide dimensions it goes against all that is expected for a vehicle of this category.
With four reverse-opening scissor doors which open wide for easy access into the vehicle, the HX1 can seat up to six people. The Peugeot HX1 celebrates Peugeot's technical expertise along with their drive for designs of the future. This is not your average family car. With low slung design giving a more sportier look, its heart holds a 2.2 Hybrid4 power system. This is capable of up to 88.2mpg and 83g/km (these are figures that make it exempt from congestion charging).
Critics have celebrated the "ingenious aerodynamics" of the vehicle and the innovative way the second row of seats are pulled into place. Evo Magazine are quoted as saying "surely the coolest looking MPV concept in years". Ken Gibson (Motoring editor for The Sun) also exclaimed that Peugeot "has upped the ante with a sleek six-seat concept". He goes on to say that the car "is a million miles from the boring square estates of a few years ago".
With Auto Express, The Telegraph and Top Gear agreeing, Peugeot are producing some stunning designs in recent years. For those of you who doubt that this car will make it into production, let us remind you that the RCZ started in much the same way. Peugeot are one of the few car manufacturers to see this kind of bold design and innovation through.
Here's hoping that the HX1 becomes a production reality in the years to come. If anything else though, the HX1 reveals what plans Peugeot has in store for us with regard to engines, styles and innovation. For most of us, that's an exciting prospect in itself.
