What the media say
The Peugeot 308 won the Goldene Lenkrad (Golden Steering Wheel) award as the best compact family car, presented by a panel of racing drivers, automotive professionals and expert media in Germany.  It also features an awarding winning engine - the 4-cylinder 175 hp Direct Injection Turbo engine, which was chosen for the second year running as "International Engine of the Year" for 2008 in the 1.4-1.8 litre category). 

A third prize picked up by the Peugeot 308 was a Guinness record for fuel savings, with the 1.6 litre HDi engine with an FAP dust filter, achieving 1,919km on one full 60-litre fuel tank.  That's an average fuel consumption of 3.13 litre/100 km and C02 emissions of 85 g/km.

Caring for the environment
Peugeot developed the HDi (High Pressure Direct Injection) diesel engines which save more than 20% in fuel consumption compared to previous generation diesel engines.  The environmental credentials of these "common rail" system engines are led by the sub 120g/km engines HDi 90 and HDi 110 EGC.  Since 2000, Peugeot has combined HDi technology with an efficient anti-pollution system called the Diesel Particulate Filter System (FAP), which eliminates diesel particles
to within measurable limits. 

For even more "green" points, add in the 6 speed electronically controlled manual gearbox (EGC) which is characterised by the absence of a clutch pedal and by different methods of changing gear: paddles under the steering wheel, sequential gear lever or automated mode.  As an alternative to traditional manual or automatic gearboxes, the EGC transmission ensures considerable gains in fuel consumption and 120 g/km CO2.

Did you know? 
The Peugeot 308 was the first model in the new Peugeot '8' generation.  Peugeot introduced its famous naming system of three digits with a central zero, with the Peugeot 201 at the Paris Motor Show 1929.  The first of the three numbers indicates the size of the model in the range, with the third digit indicating the generation of that model.
