Quentin Willson admires the new Vauxhall Ampera
The unquestionable motoring expert Quentin Willson who is known throughout the UK for his work on Fifth Gear and Top Gear has recently exclaimed that the upcoming Vauxhall Ampera should be "car of the decade". A big statement to make from anyone. However when a motoring critic with 20 years experience suggests this, it's important to take notice.

The Vauxhall Ampera is an E-Rev (extended range vehicle) which manages to be extremely environmentally friendly whilst being more practical than any electric vehicle on the market. Not only this but this car which looks much more like a futuristic concept, is available for sale in its current form in early 2012.
Writing for the Mirror, Willson notes how the Ampera is capable of a staggering 150mpg and a full-tank-range of 350 miles. With local motoring though, he states that the Ampera will "cost you buttons" to run.
The Vauxhall Ampera goes on sale in 2012 and is available with a government grant of £5000 reduction on the sale price, reducing it to a reasonable £28,995.
He remarks on the importance of ordering an Ampera now before "facing a queue of buyers and over-list black-market prices" in the new year.
Mike Rutherford (writing for the Telegraph) continues the praise for the Ampera whilst suggesting that this new Vauxhall will "prove to be a far wiser investment purely because of its greater versatility" over alternative electic vehicles. Driving in the RAC Future Car challenge from London to Brighton, he notes how choosing the Ampera over electric-only vehicles is a more sensible choice as you have the security of knowing that'll you'll get to your destination. With electric only vehicles proving to have a relatively small range, he found that several stopped for top-up charges on the short journey.
Rutherford remarks on how a journey from London to Scotland is entirely possible with a tankful of unleaded and a full charge of battery in the futuristically designed Ampera. This kind of range is completely unheard of in present environmentally sound vehicles.
Showing that the Ampera is a proven motability vehicle along with its other benefits, Derek Derenalagi (representing Help for Heroes in the RAC Future Car Challenge) claimed that "the Ampera is comfortable and easy to drive and it's also extremely responsive and silent, making the journey and amazing experience". Derek lost both his legs to a roadside bomb in Afghanistan and used his driver's adaptor kit during the run.
Praise for the Ampera in Europe has been widespread with Sicurauto highlighting the fact that journeys can be made in the Ampera that have a "total zero impact on the environment". Autoexpert also exclaim that the Ampera is "the most spectacular product" from the Vauxhall/Opel range. They suggest that the extended range vehicle is "not only a great step towards the future" it is, most importantly "a big, realistic step".
