When you are considering buying a 6.2 litre V8 VXR8 it is unlikely that fuel economy is at the height of your agenda. However this incredibly powerful Vauxhall has astounded the world by winning the MPG Marathon.
The Fleet World MPG Marathon is the UK's longest running economy driving event. It takes place over two days and covers 350 with a mixture of motorway driving, A roads and B Roads.
Driven by Top Gear Online editor Chris Mooney with assistance from Andrew Duerden (his navigator), the VXR8 registered an incredible 32.14mpg. Compare this with the quoted figure of 21mpg and you'll notice a 53% increase in fuel economy.
The man responsible for proving that the VXR8 can produce practical and economical figures said:
"Andrew and I are, as they say, over the moon to win the overall best percentage improvement in the VXR8". "It just goes to show that the person behind the wheel can make a massive difference to fuel costs and carbon emissions. And, of course that a 6.2 litre V8 is a very sensible choice of engine in the right hands".
Both Chris and Andrew will collect their trophy at the Royal Automobile Club in Pall Mall on Wednesday 12th of October.
The Vauxhall VXR8 was refined this year with a heavily revised front and rear-end styling, a new cabin and a plethora of new technology to enhance its appeal to drivers in search of one of the last, great rear-wheel driven, V8 super-saloons.
