Why Charters loves the Citroen DS3

The English designer of the Citroen DS3, Mark Lloyd, has created new car that you'll actually notice on the road.  The most distinctive feature is the floating roof - customers can choose to have contrasting colours for the body and roof, which are separated by matt black uprights, giving an original and stylish design touch.

The Citroen DS3 might be the hot car ticket this season, but its prices start at a budget friendly £11,700 for the petrol 1.4 16V VTi 95hp in DSign trim.  If you prefer the bespoke approach, a fully specified, fully personalised, range-topping DSport model, powered by the punchy 1.6 THP 150hp petrol engine, is £18,775.

What the media say about the new DS3

AutoExpress sums up its first drive saying: "Fresh, stylish and fitted with the latest technology, Citroen's new DS3 looks set to be the most DSirable car the French firm has produced in decades."  Praising the "mind-boggling array of personalisation options" and spacious interior, the road tester writes: "A quick blip of the throttle reveals a pleasantly sporty note from the twin exhausts, but the real revelation is the precise six-speed gearbox, which changes ratios superbly."  The review concludes: "On its own the DS3 is a great little car, that will likely give some of its rivals a real scare, but as a taster of what the revitalised Citroen car firm is capable of, then a new French revolution may be on the way."

Like all Citroen vehicles, the DS3 respects the environment, with the 1.6HDi 16V 90hp offering CO2 emissions of 99g/km and up to 74.3mpg - that's not only kind to the planet, but saves money on tax and fuel too.
